Talking about feminicide

Historically, latin america has been recognized as a violent territory where various ways of social, economic and cultural inequality coexist. However, there is one sector of society that suffers from all this  systematic violence: Womens.

Most femicides are committed by people close to the victims for emotional reasons or as part of relational violence schemes that are perpetuated for a long time, Latin America is a highly violent territory with women and is directly related to male socialization and cultural roots in relation to gender roles
According to UNFPA, some of the causes that have been associated with femicide are:

Having or having had a relationship with the victim. This makes it possible to establish whether or not there is a relationship of trust between the victim and the aggressor.
Exercising on the body and life of the woman acts of instrumentalization of gender or sexuality. The existence of other manifestations of gender violence such as physical and sexual, including Female Genital Mutilation, is considered.
Committing the crime taking advantage of power relations exercised over women. It makes it possible to characterize the victim personally, economically, sexually, military, politically or socioculturally, in order to establish unequal power relations between her and the aggressor.
Committing the crime to generate terror or humiliation to whoever is considered an enemy. Evidence of gender inequality, discrimination and hate.
That there is a history or evidence of any type of violence or threat by the aggressor against the victim. Femicide is a continuum of violence, this allows establishing acts of gender violence prior to death.
That the victim has been held incommunicado or deprived of his liberty. The victim's right to freedom is violated, no matter how long it was.
according to the Colombian national attorney in the country 614 cases of feminicide were registered in Colombia during 2022 For this reason, the national government has deployed, through legislation, some mechanisms to respond to this social phenomenon. The Law 1761 was created to prosecute these crimes in a more fair and specific way in honor of one of the most recognized victims of gender-based violence, Rosa Elvira Celis.
However, it is not very different in countries like Mexico where 7 feminicides are registered daily. Likewise, in the Federal Penal Code, femicide is typified in article 325, which establishes the following: “The crime of femicide is committed by anyone who deprives a woman of life for reasons of gender.

Unfortunately, these measures do not solve the root problem since there is no concrete formula to avoid femicide, it is recognized that gender-based violence tends to manifest itself in subtle ways before escalating to physical violence.
